Wonderful Weather on Saturday?

After being rained out on Monday and Wednesday of this week, although we did play for almost an hour on Wednesday, we are collectively hoping that Saturday will be a perfect day for soccer. We will practice and scrimmage on Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 PM at Bryn Mawr Meadows in Minneapolis.

New players of all skill levels, genders and sexual orientations are welcome to play with us.

Soccer During the First Week of Fall

We will be practicing and scrimmaging this week on Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Texa-Tonk Park in St. Louis Park. It is a quarter field with goals and nets.

We will also be practicing and scrimmaging on Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 PM at Bryn Mawr Meadows in Minneapolis.

We have players at a variety of skill levels and new players are always welcome to join us on the field.

Soccer Field Fun

We will be practicing at 6:00 PM on both Monday and Wednesday nights this week.

On this past Wednesday, we were asked by a creepy park worker not to meet at the youth fields at Oak Lake Park . He said we needed a permit and when we asked how we could get a permit, he said that since we are not part of a youth league we could not get a permit.

That much said, there is a city soccer field directly west of the fields that we were playing on. Since this is a city field, not a youth league field, we should not have any problems playing on this field. This field is boardered on the north by W 35th St, on the west by Quebec Ave S, on the south by Walker St. and on the east side by Pennsylvania Ave S. You should be able to see this on the Google map for Oak Lake Park . I suggest parking on the streets boarding this field rather than in the lot for the Oak Lake Park fields.

If this field is occupied, we will go to Texa-Tonk Park which is only about a mile away.

Saturday Meeting and Practice

On Saturday, September 15 we will be meeting for coffee and perhaps a light lunch at 12:00 noon at Cuppa Java which is conveniently located about 2 blocks from Bryn Mawr Meadows in Minneapolis where we play on Saturdays. We will be meeting to discuss our inevitable move to indoor soccer as the weather turns colder, other league play opportunities, and other topics.

At 1:00 PM we will head 2 blocks down the road to Bryn Mawr Meadows to practice. If you cannot make the Noon meeting, you can of course still come to practice. As always new players are welcome to join us.

Run Down of Our Teams

I thought it might be useful to give a rundown of the teams that we are organizing or are loosely affiliated with.

On Sundays, starting on September 30, Orange Crush will begin play in the City Sports Connection 7x7 Sunday Co-ed League. This team is a medium skill level and is open to up to 19 players. The games will be played at Holy Angels School in Richfield. If you are interested in playing with Orange Crush, please contact Sam at mnglbtsoccer@gmail.com for more information. Orange Crush is being sponsored by Camp Bar, who very generously donated money to help us cover the cost of jerseys and league fees.

On Tuesday nights since September 4, some of us play with The Matrix in the Minneapolis Park and Recreation League. This is a very competitive league, and the players competing in this league are among the most competitive players that we have playing with us. The roster for this team is currently full.

On Saturdays, starting on September 22, Snowballs' Chance will begin play in the City Sports Connection 7x7 Saturday Co-ed League. This team is of a beginner to medium skill level and is seeking additional players. The games will be played at Holy Angels School in Richfield and at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. If you are interested in playing with this team, please contact Ian at mnglbtsoccer@gmail.com for more information.

Players of all genders and sexual orientations are welcome to play with us.

Soccer This Week

Monday Night GLBT Soccer and Wednesday Night GLBT Soccer will be held at 6:00 PM at Oak Lake Park in St. Louis Park. Oak Lake Park is near the intersection of Highway 7 and Louisiana Ave South. Oak Lake Park contains several soccer fields in excellent shape.

We will use the fields at Oak Lake Park for our Monday and Wednesday practices for the foreseeable future.

Since there is less and less sun in the evening we will start at 6:00 PM from now on. If you cannot get to the field at 6:00 PM, come when ever you can make it.

Saturday practices will remain at 1:00 PM at Bryn Mawr Meadows in Minneapolis.

Labor Day Week Soccer

Since Monday is a national holiday, and most of us do not work during that day, some players suggested that we play at 1:00 PM instead of our normal 6:30 PM. Also we wanted to make it a social occasion, so we will be barbecuing after we play soccer. Here is the plan for soccer on Labor Day:
  • Soccer practice at 1:00 PM at Bryn Mawr Meadows in Minneapolis.
  • Barbecue at 3:00 PM at the field after practice.
Sam and Jeremy will be bringing a grill. Please feel free to bring something to share like potato salad, something to throw on the grill, beverages, or perhaps a desert. Folding chairs, blankets and other picnic sorts of things will also help to set the mood. If you can't make it for the practice, we hope you can still make it for the barbecue.

We will practice as normal on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM at Texa-Tonk Park in St. Louis Park.
